It is St David's day on Sunday 1st March and a perfect day to listen to beautiful Welsh music!
''Welsh folk group Calan join BBC NOW to mark St David’s Day
with a UK premiere of Cân Cnawd y Pridd – a suite of five compositions inspired
by collections of traditional Welsh songs and tunes at the National Library of
Wales. The suite, dedicated to the memory of Meredydd Evans - one of the most
important song collectors of the 20th Century - is a joint commission between
BBC NOW and Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne.
Cardiff Singer of the World Song Prize finalist Angharad
Lyddon also joins the Orchestra to sing 3 Welsh songs and BBC National Chorus
of Wales perform Brian Hughes’ Noa.
Members of the National Youth Orchestra of Wales will play
side by side with BBC NOW and a performance by male voice choir Côr Meibion Taf
will take place in the interval. A perfect way to celebrate Wales’ national
day!''
