Ponyo
Chapter Arts Centre, Market Road, Cardiff, CF5 1QE
Sweet natured Sosuke finds a goldfish called Ponyo trapped in a jar by the beach. When he cuts himself on the glass, the fish licks him better and reveals herself to be the daughter of the king of the ocean, drawing him under the waves to a hidden enclave of neon-hued aqualife. Yet their blossoming friendship is threatened by the trenchant reminder of looming ecological catastrophe as Ponyo’s crossing from sea to land upsets the balance of nature. One of Ghibli’s most luminous films and a true ode to motherhood.
